Free Prenatal Classes in Miami: Nurture & Nourish
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources runs free prenatal classes in Miami for expecting parents across Miami-Dade County and Broward County. The Becoming a Mom program is a four-part series covering pregnancy, nutrition, complications and childbirth — and it finishes with a baby shower.
You do not need insurance. You do not need to deliver at a particular hospital. We do not ask about immigration status. It costs nothing.
Offered in partnership with Rozalyn H. Paschal M.D. P.A. Pediatrics, whose Miami office is in this building.
What the childbirth classes cover
Becoming a Mom runs as four sessions. Prenatal classes and birthing classes in one series — you do not book them separately or travel to different places for labor classes and newborn care. Come to all four and you finish with a baby shower.
- PregnancyWhat is happening month by month, what is normal, what is not, and what to expect at each prenatal visit.
- NutritionEating well during pregnancy on a real budget, what to avoid, and how food assistance can help. We can screen you for SNAP at the same time.
- Complications and a healthy pregnancyWarning signs that need a call to your doctor, common complications, and how to lower your risk.
- ChildbirthWhat labor and delivery involve, your options, and how to prepare so the day is less frightening.
Partners, grandparents and anyone supporting you through the pregnancy are welcome to come with you.
When should you start prenatal classes?
Most childbirth classes are taken in the third trimester, commonly starting somewhere between 28 and 32 weeks, so the series finishes comfortably before the birth. Earlier is fine too — the nutrition and healthy pregnancy sessions are more useful the sooner you hear them.
If you are further along than 32 weeks, call anyway. Staff will tell you honestly whether the next series will finish in time, and if it will not, they will point you toward birthing classes in Miami that start sooner.
Ask your own doctor or midwife what they recommend for your pregnancy. This page is general information, not medical advice.
How this differs from hospital prenatal classes
There are good free prenatal classes in Miami-Dade run by Jackson Health, Baptist Health, Memorial and the Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade. If one of those fits your situation better, take it — we will happily point you there.
What is different about Becoming a Mom:
- No hospital tie. Hospital maternity classes are usually built around delivering at that hospital. Ours are not. Deliver wherever you plan to deliver.
- No insurance needed, and you do not have to be anyone's patient first.
- We do not ask about immigration status.
- Benefits enrollment in the same visit. No hospital childbirth class will screen you for Medicaid, Florida KidCare, SNAP and WIC while you are there. We will.
- A baby shower at the end, not a certificate.
- Your baby's pediatrician is in this building.
The baby shower
Parents who complete all four sessions receive a baby shower at no cost. Not a certificate, an actual shower.
For a family that is already stretched, this is often the difference between arriving home with what a newborn needs and arriving home without it.
Our pediatric partner
Nurture & Nourish is run in partnership with Rozalyn H. Paschal M.D. P.A. Pediatrics, a board-certified pediatric clinic in Miami that has served South Florida families since 1953.
Their Miami office is in our building. Dr. Paschal's Miami practice is at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Suite 50 — the same address as A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources, Suite 50B, inside Northside Shopping Center. If you have no car, that matters. You can handle your benefits paperwork and your baby's pediatrician in one trip.

Pregnancy Medicaid, WIC and coverage for your baby
This is the part most expecting parents miss, and it is often worth more than the classes.
Florida Medicaid for pregnant women
Pregnancy Medicaid in Florida covers prenatal care, labor and delivery, and your baby once born. Many women qualify during pregnancy who would not qualify at any other time, because the income limits for maternity Medicaid are higher than for adults generally. A great many pregnant women never apply because they assume they earn too much.
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources is a registered MyACCESS Partner with the Florida Department of Children and Families. Staff screen you, complete the application with you, and submit it — rather than handing you a website address.
If you are already pregnant and have no insurance, this is the first thing to sort out, before the classes. Call (786) 396-3144 and say you are pregnant and need coverage.
Medicaid application assistance in Miami
What is Healthy Start?
Healthy Start is a free Florida program offering home visiting, education and care coordination to pregnant women and families with children under three. It is open to every pregnant woman regardless of income, marital status or immigration status, and it is separate from anything A New Life provides.
The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade can be reached on (305) 541-0210. If Healthy Start suits your situation better than our program, staff will tell you so and help you make the call.
WIC in Miami-Dade
WIC provides food, formula, nutrition counselling and breastfeeding support for pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five. It runs through the Florida Department of Health rather than DCF, and it is separate from SNAP — you can receive both.
Staff can explain what WIC covers, what you need to bring, and where the nearest WIC office in Miami-Dade is.
Health insurance for your newborn
Sort coverage before the birth, not after. Babies born to a mother on Medicaid are generally covered automatically at first, and children who do not qualify for Medicaid usually qualify for Florida KidCare — often $15 or $20 a month for every child in the household.
Food while you are pregnant
Staff can screen your household for SNAP and file it at the same appointment. See SNAP food stamp application help, or our food pantry if you need groceries this week.

Prenatal class questions parents ask
When should I start taking prenatal classes?
Most childbirth education is taken in the third trimester, commonly starting between 28 and 32 weeks so the series finishes before the birth. Earlier is fine, and the nutrition and healthy pregnancy sessions are more useful the sooner you hear them. If you are past 32 weeks, call A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources at (786) 396-3144 and staff will tell you whether the next series finishes in time.
How many weeks pregnant should you do birthing classes?
Around 28 to 32 weeks is the usual guidance, which allows a multi-week series to finish before the baby arrives. Ask your own doctor or midwife what they recommend for your pregnancy.
Are prenatal classes free in Miami?
Yes, several free options exist across Miami-Dade. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources runs the free Becoming a Mom series, and free classes are also offered by Jackson Health, Baptist Health, Memorial and the Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade. Hospital classes are usually tied to delivering at that hospital. Becoming a Mom is not, and no insurance is required.
What programs are available for pregnant mothers in Florida?
Pregnant women in Florida may qualify for Medicaid, WIC, SNAP food assistance, and Healthy Start, the free statewide home-visiting and education program available regardless of income or immigration status. Children born to the family may qualify for Medicaid or Florida KidCare. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources screens households for all of these and completes the applications with you.
What is the Becoming a Mom program?
Becoming a Mom is a free four-part prenatal education series offered by A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources under its Nurture & Nourish program, covering pregnancy, nutrition, pregnancy complications and childbirth. Participants who complete all four sessions receive a baby shower. It is offered in partnership with Rozalyn H. Paschal M.D. P.A. Pediatrics.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Becoming a Mom is free, and so is everything else A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources provides. There is no charge to attend and no charge for the baby shower.
Who can join?
Any expecting parent living in Miami-Dade County or Broward County. You do not need to be a church member, you do not need insurance, and we do not ask about immigration status. Partners, grandparents and support people are welcome to attend with you.
Can you help me find a pediatrician and health coverage too?
Yes, and this is the part most families miss. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources can enroll your baby in Medicaid or Florida KidCare and connect you with a pediatrician before the birth. Rozalyn H. Paschal M.D. P.A. Pediatrics accepts Florida Medicaid at all three of its offices, and its Miami office is in the same building as ours.
When does the next series start?
Call (786) 396-3144 for the current schedule. Series run on a rolling basis through the year.
