Immigration Resources for Families in Miami-Dade and Broward
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources helps immigrant families in Miami-Dade County and Broward County get food, health coverage, and other support their household qualifies for. For immigration legal matters, staff connect you with accredited organizations that can lawfully help.
We serve families regardless of immigration status. Everything we do is free.
Protect yourself from immigration fraud. In Florida, only licensed attorneys and representatives accredited by the U.S. Department of Justice may give immigration advice or prepare immigration forms. A notario público in the United States is not a lawyer, whatever the sign outside says.
Never pay someone who is not an attorney or an accredited representative to fill out immigration paperwork. Verify a lawyer with The Florida Bar at 866-352-0707. Report fraud to Miami-Dade Consumer Protection at 786-469-2333 or consumer@miamidade.gov.
How A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources helps immigrant families
Many immigrant families in South Florida go without help they are entitled to, because they assume the whole household is ineligible or because they are afraid to ask. Often that is not true.
- Medicaid for children — citizen children qualify regardless of their parents' status, and some lawfully residing non-citizen children may qualify too
- Food assistance — our food pantry in Miami Gardens serves every family, and we can check who in your household is eligible for SNAP
- Health care access — clinics and medical care for adults and children without insurance
- School support — referrals coordinated with Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Schools
- Screening for the whole household — staff work out who is eligible for what, so nobody misses out and nobody applies for something they should not
- Connecting you to accredited immigration help — see the list below
What we do not do
Being clear about this protects your family.
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources is not a law firm. Staff are not attorneys and are not accredited by the U.S. Department of Justice. We do not give immigration legal advice, we do not prepare or file immigration forms, and we do not represent anyone before immigration authorities. We never charge for anything.
If anyone tells you otherwise, or asks you for money to handle an immigration matter on our behalf, they do not speak for this organization. Please tell us.
What we do is connect you with organizations that can lawfully help, and take care of the other needs your family has in the meantime.

What your children may qualify for right now
This is the part families most often miss.
- Medicaid — citizen children qualify regardless of their parents' status, and some lawfully residing non-citizen children may qualify too. See Medicaid application assistance in Miami.
- Florida KidCare — health insurance for children under 19 who are citizens or lawfully residing, often $15 or $20 a month for the whole household. See Florida KidCare enrollment help.
- School meals and school support — available to every enrolled child regardless of status
- Food assistance — our pantry serves all families, and eligible household members may qualify for SNAP
Staff will explain exactly what each application asks for and what it does with that information, before you decide anything.
How to avoid immigration fraud
Immigration fraud is common in South Florida and it targets the families with the least to lose. Protect yourself:
- A notary is not a lawyer in the United States. In many Latin American countries a notario público is a trained legal professional. In Florida a notary has no legal authority in immigration matters at all.
- Only two kinds of people may help. A licensed attorney, or a representative accredited by the U.S. Department of Justice working for a recognized organization. Nobody else.
- Verify before you pay. Check any attorney with The Florida Bar at 866-352-0707. Ask an accredited representative to show you their accreditation.
- Never sign a blank form. Never sign anything you have not read or do not understand.
- Keep your original documents. Give copies, never originals.
- Get a receipt for anything you pay, and keep a copy of every form filed for you.
- Report fraud. Miami-Dade Consumer Protection, 786-469-2333 or consumer@miamidade.gov.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I get free immigration services in Miami?
Free and low-cost immigration legal help in Miami-Dade is available from Catholic Legal Services, Archdiocese of Miami at 305-373-1073, the Miami-Dade Office of New Americans at 305-636-1010, the Florida Immigrant Coalition hotline at 1-888-600-5762, and CASA Miami. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources is not a law firm and does not provide immigration legal services, but staff will help you reach the right organization and will help your family with food, health coverage, and other programs while your case is handled elsewhere.
Who can help me fill out immigration forms?
In Florida, only licensed attorneys and representatives accredited by the U.S. Department of Justice may help you complete immigration forms or advise you on your case. Notaries, translation services, and consultants cannot legally do this, no matter what they advertise. Contact Catholic Legal Services at 305-373-1073 or the Miami-Dade Office of New Americans at 305-636-1010 for help from a credentialed provider.
Where can I get immigration advice for free?
Free immigration legal advice in Miami-Dade is available from Catholic Legal Services, the Saint Thomas University Human Rights Institute at 305-441-5240, and the University of Miami School of Law Immigration Clinic. The Florida Immigrant Coalition also runs a free hotline at 1-888-600-5762. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources cannot give immigration advice and will always refer you to one of these.
Can my children get Medicaid if we do not have immigration status?
Yes. Children who are U.S. citizens qualify for Medicaid regardless of their parents' status. Some lawfully residing non-citizen children may also qualify. Eligibility depends on the child's specific status. Many parents never apply because they assume the whole family is ineligible. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources can screen your household for free and apply for the members who qualify.
Is it safe to ask for help if I do not have papers?
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources serves families regardless of immigration status, and does not ask about the status of anyone who is not applying for a benefit. Staff will tell you plainly what any application does and does not involve before you decide anything. If you have concerns about how applying might affect your family, speak with an accredited immigration provider first.
How do I avoid immigration fraud in Miami?
Never pay a notary or consultant to prepare immigration forms. In Florida only licensed attorneys and DOJ-accredited representatives may do that work. Verify an attorney with The Florida Bar at 866-352-0707. Ask for the person's accreditation in writing. Never hand over original documents. Report unauthorised practice of law or notario fraud to Miami-Dade Consumer Protection at consumer@miamidade.gov or 786-469-2333.
