What Medicaid application help covers
Medicaid is health coverage for people with low income. In Florida it is administered by the Department of Children and Families through the MyACCESS system, and the application asks for a lot of detail.
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources helps with all of it:
- Free screening to see who in your household qualifies before you apply
- Completing and submitting the MyACCESS application with you at your appointment
- Gathering the documents Florida asks for
- Explaining letters from DCF that are hard to understand
- Renewals, so coverage does not lapse
- Next steps if you are denied, including Florida KidCare for children
Who qualifies for Medicaid in Florida
Florida Medicaid covers specific groups rather than everyone with low income:
- Children in families under the income limit
- Pregnant women
- Parents and caretakers of minor children, at very low income levels
- Adults aged 65 and over
- People with a disability
Florida has not expanded Medicaid. That means many working adults without children do not qualify, even on very low income. It is the single most common reason a Florida application is denied. If that is your situation, staff will tell you plainly and look at what else is available instead of leaving you to find out weeks later.
Children and families without immigration status
Some lawfully residing non-citizen children qualify for Medicaid in Florida, and citizen children qualify regardless of their parents' status. Many parents do not know this and never apply, so their children go without coverage they are entitled to.
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources serves families regardless of immigration status. Staff will explain who in your household is eligible and what applying does and does not involve.
If your children earn too much for Medicaid, they will usually qualify for Florida KidCare enrollment help instead, often for $15 or $20 a month.

Frequently asked questions about Medicaid in Miami
Who qualifies for Medicaid in Florida?
Florida Medicaid covers children, pregnant women, parents of minor children with very low income, people aged 65 and over, and people with disabilities. Florida has not expanded Medicaid to all low-income adults, so many working adults without children do not qualify even with very low income. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources screens your household for free and, if Medicaid is not available to you, looks at what is.
Can non-citizens get Medicaid in Florida?
Some lawfully residing non-citizen children qualify for Medicaid in Florida, and citizen children qualify regardless of their parents' status. Adults who are lawfully present may qualify after five years of residence, with some categories eligible sooner. Undocumented adults do not qualify for full Medicaid but may be eligible for emergency Medicaid. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources can tell you who in your household is eligible.
How do I apply for Medicaid in Miami-Dade?
Medicaid applications in Florida go through the MyACCESS system run by the Department of Children and Families. You can apply online yourself, or A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources can complete and submit the application with you at no cost as a registered MyACCESS Partner. Call (786) 396-3144 to book an appointment.
What documents do I need for a Florida Medicaid application?
Bring a photo ID, Social Security numbers for household members, proof of income for the last 30 days, proof of where you live, and birth certificates for any children being added. If you are applying based on a disability or pregnancy, bring any medical documentation you have.
What if I do not qualify for Medicaid?
There are other options. Children under 19 who earn too much for Medicaid usually qualify for Florida KidCare, often for $15 or $20 a month. Adults without a Social Security number may be able to access care through community clinics. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources will not simply tell you no — staff will look at what else is available for your household.
