Florida KidCare Enrollment Help in Miami-Dade and Broward
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources helps families in Miami-Dade County and Broward County enrol their children in Florida KidCare. It is health insurance for children under 19, and many families pay just $15 or $20 a month to cover every qualifying child in the household. Our help is free.
What Florida KidCare is
Florida KidCare is the state's health insurance program for children under 19. It is an umbrella covering four programs, and when you apply the state decides which one fits your child:
- Medicaid for Children — for families with the lowest incomes
- MediKids — for children aged 1 to 4
- Florida Healthy Kids — for children aged 5 to 18
- Children's Medical Services Health Plan — for children with special health needs
You do not need to work out which one your child belongs in. That is what the application is for, and A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources will complete it with you.
Enrollment is open all year. There is no deadline and no limited window.
What Florida KidCare costs
Most families pay $15 or $20 a month, and that covers every qualifying child in the household, not each child separately. Some families pay nothing at all. There is no deductible.
Families whose income is above the subsidised limit can still enrol at the full unsubsidised rate, which is considerably more but often still cheaper than the alternatives.
A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources can tell you what your family would actually pay before you apply, so there are no surprises.
The income limits are unsettled. Florida passed an expansion of KidCare eligibility that has been delayed repeatedly and remains subject to a dispute with the federal government. Staff will explain what is actually in effect on the day you apply, not what has been announced.
Who qualifies for Florida KidCare
A child qualifies if all of the following are true:
- The child is under 19
- The child lives in Florida
- The child is a U.S. citizen or a lawfully residing non-citizen
- Family income falls within the program limits
A child who already qualifies for Medicaid must enrol in Medicaid instead. Children covered by a parent's employer plan are generally not eligible for subsidised KidCare unless that coverage costs more than 5 percent of family income.
If your child does not qualify for KidCare, staff will look at Medicaid application assistance in Miami and other options instead.

Frequently asked questions about Florida KidCare
How much does Florida KidCare cost?
Most families pay $15 or $20 a month to cover all qualifying children in the household, and some families pay nothing. There is no deductible. Families whose income is above the subsidised limit can still enrol at full cost. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources can tell you what your family would pay before you apply.
Who qualifies for Florida KidCare?
A child qualifies if they are under 19, live in Florida, and are a U.S. citizen or a lawfully residing non-citizen, and if the family income falls within the program limits. A child who already qualifies for Medicaid must enrol in Medicaid instead. Children covered by a parent's employer plan are usually not eligible for subsidised KidCare.
Is Florida KidCare the same as Medicaid?
No, but they are connected. Florida KidCare is an umbrella covering four programs: Medicaid for Children, MediKids, Florida Healthy Kids, and the Children's Medical Services Health Plan. When you apply, the state works out which of the four your child fits. Children whose family earns too much for Medicaid usually land in one of the low-cost KidCare programs.
Can I apply for Florida KidCare any time of year?
Yes. Florida KidCare enrollment is open all year round. There is no limited window, so the best time to apply is whenever your child needs coverage.
How long does a Florida KidCare application take?
The application itself takes about 15 minutes with help. Processing takes several weeks, so apply before you need the coverage rather than after. A New Life in Christ Ministries and Resources will follow up on your application if you do not hear back.
